Default TOC2 Round 1: Compact Inverted Coasters

TOC2 continues with a battle between compact inverted coasters. Universal's Islands of Adventure again represents Florida as it puts Ice Dragon up against Six Flags Great America's original Batman: the Ride and California's Great America's Flight Deck (formerly Top Gun).

Remember to vote for your FAVORITE coaster, and the two highest scoring rides will advance to Round 2 where they will face the formidable duo of Montu and Alpengeist.

This was a really tough pick for me, but interetingly, at no point was Ice Dragon even considered. To me, it's not even close to being in the same league as Batman or Top Gun (I'll never accept CF's awful new names!).

I love Batman: the Ride. Even though it can be found on virtually every street corner these days, the over-saturation has made it no less special to me. It's SO intense, SO powerful, SO smooth and the tight, compact, twisted layout leaves surprises around every turn.

That's why the decision to vote against it was difficult. Top Gun just completely blew me away in a way that few coasters have. It's up there with Nemesis in terms of intensity. The layout is unique. It's smooth; it's fast; it's insanely powerful for such a small ride. The loop, bigger than Batman's, adds to the thrill. The crazy twisted turn around that follows is, well, crazy. The heartline over the queue entrance is up there with Kumba's, and the corkscrew over the lake and following helix are simply unmatched. I'm worried that, given it's location, Top Gun / Flight Deck will not be fairly represented in this poll, but take it from someone who's traveled the world, it's one of the best there is on any bracket.

I've always wanted to ride Top Gun, but I haven't, and I have high respect for BTR so I'm sticking with it. BTR is probably the only coaster that's cloned all over the world and still worth waiting in line for.

    Voted for Ice Dragon.

I agree that Batman is great. I agree that Flight Deck is great (but not THAT great). I'm a big fan of inverted coasters and I enjoy both. I'm just really impressed with the Dueling Dragons layout and dueling, that I think I would like Ice more than the other two. While Fire may have a much better layout, I don't see how it can be that much better than Ice with the theme the two rides have and the dueling.

Then again, the last (and only) time I was at IOA I was too short for Ice Dragon.

I'd just like to point out now, before we have the fiasco that came up in TOC1, that you are only voting for ICE dragon as a single roller coaster. It gets *no* extra credit for having Fire Dragon next to it. The vote is not for a dueling ride, it is *only* for Ice Dragon.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I'm not counting the Dragons as the same coaster, but when you ride Ice Dragon, you get the dueling experience with Fire Dragon next to it. It adds to the ride, just like theming does.

The vote is for Ice Dragon alone. What Fire Dragon does or does not do should not be reflected in this poll for Ice Dragon. We had major problems with this in the first Tournament of Champions. Even though there were very clear instructions in that particular poll to only vote for one Dragon, all the replies were "Well I pick the Dragon because it's two coasters which makes it better than the other ride which is only one."

For the purpose of this poll, you just rode Ice Dragon while Fire Dragon is closed. That's probably the best way to explain it. The vote is based on the merits of one steel roller coaster.

Is it too late to change my vote to Batman?

I can do that if you're sure you want to do that, just know that you can't change your mind a second time, and this vote will stick
